NRSynopsis
Patria (2020), Season 1 — watch online on iFILM, eight episodes of a Spanish drama from HBO Europe and Atresmedia, adapted from Fernando Aramburu's novel. The story opens just after ETA's 2011 ceasefire in the Basque Country — not as political resolution, but as the point when two women can no longer avoid each other.
Bittori returns to the village she left after her husband Txato was assassinated by ETA. She wants to know who pulled the trigger and why the neighbours looked away. Her former closest friend Miren is still there — and it's Miren's son Joxe Mari who is serving time for that murder. The series cuts between timelines, tracing how a friendship that survived decades cracked under separatist violence, collective silence, and the logic of staying loyal to family over truth. Elena Irureta's performance as Bittori earns every quiet scene.
Neither side of the ceasefire line gets to be simply right. Patria is as clear-eyed about the grief of a widow as it is about what a mother tells herself to keep going. Stream Patria Season 1 all episodes online on iFILM.
