Each episode hands the narration to someone who stood at a turning point: Joseph, John the Baptist, Mary his mother, the high priest Caiaphas, Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Mary Magdalene, and Peter. Dramatised scenes are woven with commentary from scholars and theologians, shifting the viewer between devotion, calculation, doubt and betrayal.
