Synopsis

The setting is Metropia, an alternate 1939 megacity that somehow absorbed centuries of future technology into a world still running on jazz and zeppelins. Private eye Raymond Gunn picks up a murder case. It ends with aliens and a multimedia star named Venus Nova. Bird layers a hard-boiled detective structure over a genuinely weird sci-fi premise and treats none of it as a joke — the tone is dark, the city is oppressive, and the mystery goes somewhere unexpected.
