Synopsis
Public Enemies (2009) is Michael Mann's crime drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Johnny Depp plays bank robber John Dillinger as a fledgling FBI hunts him down.
It's 1933, the worst of the Depression, and Dillinger pulls off daylight heists with a swagger the newspapers can't resist. To a public that blames the banks for everything, he reads like a folk hero. That popularity is exactly what J. Edgar Hoover wants to crush: catching Dillinger would turn his small Bureau into a national force. Hoover hands the job to his sharpest agent, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), while the outlaw falls for coat-check girl Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard), a romance that leaves him exposed.
Mann shot much of the film on handheld digital cameras, so the shootouts feel raw and close rather than polished period dressing. The script draws on Bryan Burrough's account of the FBI's war against the Depression-era gangs. Stream Public Enemies (2009) online on iFILM.
