Maximillian (Eddie Murphy) needs a woman with vampire blood in her family — the only kind who can share his immortality. The search leads him to Detective Rita Veder (Angela Bassett), who happens to be working the very case of that ghost ship. He works his charm and his hypnosis, slipping into disguises along the way, from a sweaty street preacher to a foul-mouthed hustler, all played by Murphy under heavy makeup. Rita feels a pull toward the stranger she can't explain.
