Synopsis

The opener throws Morse and Fred Thursday into the lights and money of professional football after a death threat targets Jack Swift, the star striker of Oxford Wanderers; success here comes with a bill. From there the team chases a run of attacks on cab drivers that turns deadly, then ends the run snowed in. Stranded at a shuttered hotel during a blizzard, Morse becomes the target of someone else's revenge. A fault line runs under all three, and it keeps creeping closer to the station itself.

As the inquiry unfolds, the detective finds the case hits too close to home and starts to retreat from those close to him.

It is the winter of 1971 and the team is split up by a snowstorm while investigating the murder of a college don, and Endeavour is stranded at an abandoned hotel where he becomes the subject of a revenge plot.
