Endeavour (Seasons 1–9)

Endeavour (2013–2023) is an ITV detective series you can watch online on iFILM. Shaun Evans plays the young Endeavour Morse — Oxford-educated, already deeply strange, and still a constable — years before the character became the inspector audiences knew from the original Colin Dexter adaptations.

Set in 1960s Oxford, each episode pairs Morse with Detective Inspector Fred Thursday, played by Roger Allam: a postwar pragmatist who runs on procedure where Morse runs on intuition and classical music. Their cases move through university colleges, country houses and working-class streets, and the crimes rarely turn out to be about what they first appear. Morse takes everything too personally. Thursday notices, says little, and covers for him anyway.

The series ran for ten seasons before its writers chose to bring it to a planned close in 2023. For anyone who enjoys slow-burn British crime drama with strong period atmosphere and a central character worth following over a decade, it holds up across all of them.
