Synopsis
Sense and Sensibility (2008) is a BBC period miniseries you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by John Alexander from a script by Andrew Davies — the writer behind the famous Pride and Prejudice adaptation — it brings Jane Austen's first published novel to the screen.
When their father dies, the Dashwood sisters are left with almost nothing: the estate passes by law to their half-brother, and any hope of a good marriage shrinks to nearly zero. Composed, level-headed Elinor keeps her feelings for the reserved Edward Ferrars to herself. Fiery Marianne is drawn to the charming Willoughby while the steady Colonel Brandon waits in the wings. Hattie Morahan, Charity Wakefield, Dan Stevens and David Morrissey lead the cast. Davies deliberately made this version earthier than earlier adaptations, restoring a seduction and a duel that Austen only hints at on the page.
Across three episodes it moves at the pace of drawing rooms, letters and rain-soaked walks where every word carries weight. It's made for Austen readers and anyone who loves an unhurried BBC costume drama. Stream all episodes of Sense and Sensibility (2008) online on iFILM.
