The Hudson's Bay Company is losing its grip, so Lord Benton sails west to hunt one man: the trapper Declan Harp. He sends a green stowaway, Michael Smyth, into the wilderness as bait — and Michael soon picks a side of his own. Harp courts the Cree, plans a raid, and tightens the noose around Fort James. Schemes stack up. By the finale, nobody's hands stay clean.
