Synopsis
"The Miracle Woman" (1931) is a Frank Capra drama available to watch online on iFILM. Barbara Stanwyck plays Florence Fallon, a minister's daughter who loses her faith, her home, and her patience in one afternoon — and ends up running a fraudulent tent revival with a con man named Hornsby.
Hornsby handles the money, Florence handles the crowd, the miracles are staged, and the congregation pays up. Then a blind former aviator named John (David Manners) shows up — he came with nothing left to lose. That changes things for Florence in ways Hornsby doesn't appreciate. The film is less about religion than about the people who need something to believe in, and those who sell it to them.
Capra made this two years before "It Happened One Night" put him on the map. The screenplay drew partly from the life of evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson. Watch "The Miracle Woman" online on iFILM.
