Synopsis
Pocketful of Miracles (1961) is Frank Capra's comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Big-city racketeer Dave the Dude (Glenn Ford) has one superstition: he buys an apple every day from Apple Annie (Bette Davis), a street peddler who drinks too much and charges too little. As long as he does, things go his way.
Then Annie's daughter Louise arrives from Europe with her fiancé — a Spanish count who believes his bride-to-be is a respected society widow. In hours, Dave has to transform a broke drunk into "Mrs. E. Worthington Manville," complete with a hotel suite, a wardrobe, and a governor drafted as a prop. Peter Falk plays Dave's sharp-tongued right hand; a very young Ann-Margret appears as Louise.
Capra remade his own 1933 hit Lady for a Day, and this was his final film. The comedy is soft-edged and deliberately sentimental — the kind of picture that genuinely believes a gangster's heart can be in exactly the right place. Stream Pocketful of Miracles (1961) online on iFILM.
