Into the Night

Into the Night (1985) is an American thriller-comedy directed by John Landis — watch it online on iFILM. Ed Okin can't sleep, his wife is cheating on him, and his job is boring. He drives to LAX at three in the morning with no particular plan and a terrified blonde named Diana lands on the hood of his car. That's the end of his boring life.

Michelle Pfeiffer plays Diana as someone with very serious people after her and very few options left. Jeff Goldblum is Ed — disoriented, reluctant, but too stubborn to simply drive away. The chase that follows zigzags across night-time Los Angeles through a maze of smuggling, Iranian gems, and men who do not negotiate. Dan Aykroyd appears briefly. David Bowie shows up as a hit man. The cameo roster also includes David Cronenberg, Jim Henson, Jonathan Demme, and a dozen other filmmakers Landis recruited personally — which turns the film into a strange, affectionate portrait of 1980s Hollywood shot from the inside.
