Synopsis
Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry (2021) is a 140-minute documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by R.J. Cutler and released on Apple TV+. Cutler spent two years with cameras running — in bedrooms, on tour buses, backstage and at home in the O'Connell family's Los Angeles house.
The film traces the making of "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" — a debut album recorded almost entirely in Finneas O'Connell's small bedroom, with no outside producer and no traditional studio session in sight. The record hit number one in seventeen countries. The doc catches Billie at seventeen, figuring out what to do with a level of attention that arrived before she had any framework for handling it: the Tourette syndrome she'd kept quiet, an intense relationship she navigates on camera, a conversation with Justin Bieber backstage that reads less like celebrity gossip and more like a teenager getting advice from someone who survived the same thing younger.
Cutler keeps the polish off. What you see is what it actually looked like — which turns out to be more interesting than any polished portrait would have been. Stream Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry online on iFILM.
