Synopsis
Against the Ropes (2004) is a boxing drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows Jackie Kallen, a real woman who fought her way into the male world of professional fight management, in a loosely fictionalized story that marks actor Charles S. Dutton's debut behind the camera.
Meg Ryan plays Jackie, a club secretary who has spent years around the ring and understands the game better than most of the men billing themselves as managers. By chance she spots a raw street fighter, Luther Shaw (Omar Epps), and decides to mold him into a champion. With no money, no contacts, and no respect from her peers, she takes over his career herself. What follows is the usual price of winning — contracts, betrayals, and the danger of losing the very thing she set out to build. Dutton also appears on screen as the trainer, Felix.
This is a solid second-chance story about what it costs a woman to claim a place in a sport that never wanted her there. Don't expect Rocky-sized bouts — the focus stays on character and the business behind the ropes. Worth a look if you like stories of people going it alone against the odds.
