Let Them All Talk

Let Them All Talk (2020) is a comedy-drama directed by Steven Soderbergh — watch it online on iFILM. Meryl Streep plays a celebrated novelist who boards the Queen Mary 2 for a transatlantic crossing, bringing along two old friends and her nephew for company.

What looks like a reunion cruise quickly turns complicated. Old grievances surface between the women, nephew Tyler (Lucas Hedges) gets tangled up with a literary agent (Gemma Chan) secretly tasked with getting a read on the author, and Diane Wiest and Candice Bergen round out a cast that makes every scene feel like a small, charged standoff.

Soderbergh shot the whole thing on the actual ship, largely improvised, with natural light and a loose script — which gives the film a texture no studio comedy can fake. It's genuinely funny in places and genuinely uncomfortable in others, which is exactly what happens when people who haven't spoken in twenty years are stuck on a boat together.
