The year is somewhere in the near future. Body parts are replaceable, brains included — and the line between human and cyborg has all but dissolved. Alex is an LAPD detective who's had so many combat repairs that he's more machine than man. When he tries to quit the force, his handlers implant a bomb in his chest to keep him in line. His assignment: recover a stolen data chip that a group of information terrorists plan to use as leverage for a cyborg takeover. The trail leads to Jared — his former partner, former lover. By the time he reaches her, Alex realizes he was the bait all along.
