Synopsis
Don Verdean (2015) is a deadpan satire you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jared Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame and starring Sam Rockwell in the title role.
Don Verdean bills himself as a biblical archaeologist, making a living by digging up "proof" of Scripture in the Holy Land. A local pastor pays him to recover a relic that will fill the pews again. The catch: the real finds keep coming up empty, the expeditions go nowhere, and the money is due now. So Don and his crew start "discovering" artifacts that never existed.
Rockwell plays a con man who half believes his own nonsense, surrounded by Jemaine Clement, Danny McBride, Will Forte and Amy Ryan all having a blast. The humor is dry and awkward, pitched in the same key as early Hess. It lands best with viewers who like comedies about small-time grifters chasing oversized dreams.
