A Different World (Seasons 1–6)

"A Different World" (1987–1993) is an American sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. It started as a spin-off from The Cosby Show, following Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) as she heads off to Hillman College — a fictional historically Black institution in Virginia. Then Bonet left after season one, and the show reinvented itself.

The center shifted to Southern-belle Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and math whiz Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), whose on-again-off-again relationship runs through six seasons of campus life. Alongside the romance, the series worked through race, student activism, the AIDS crisis, and the Gulf War — without losing the comedy. A young Jada Pinkett-Smith joined later seasons; Debbie Allen stepped in as producer-director from season three and gave the show a noticeably sharper edge.
