Synopsis
The Jeffersons (1975–1985) is a landmark American sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. This long-running spin-off of All in the Family follows a Black family climbing from working-class Queens to the top of Manhattan.
George Jefferson has made a fortune from a chain of dry-cleaning stores, and he's moving his family out of working-class Queens into a deluxe high-rise on the East Side. Loud, hot-tempered and certain he's earned every floor of the building, George keeps talking himself into trouble. His wife Louise — "Weezy" to him — reins him in, alongside the wisecracking maid Florence, interracial neighbors the Willises, and a perpetually flustered English doorman.
Spun off from Norman Lear's All in the Family, the show ran eleven seasons on CBS and became one of television's longest-running sitcoms built around a Black family. Isabel Sanford's Louise made her the first Black woman to win the Emmy for lead actress in a comedy. It talked plainly about race and money without ever forgetting to be funny.
