Synopsis
All in the Family (1971–1979) is Norman Lear's landmark CBS comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Carroll O'Connor plays Archie Bunker — a Queens dock worker who considers himself the last sane man in a country gone soft.
Every night at the dinner table, Archie clashes with his wife Edith (Jean Stapleton), daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers), and her college-student husband Mike (Rob Reiner) — a liberal Archie calls "Meathead" on a good day. The big topics of 1970s America — race, Vietnam, women's rights — landed directly in that living room, and nobody left the table happy.
Lear adapted a British sitcom and turned Archie into a portrait of American prejudice that cut too close for comfort. The series ran nine seasons, picked up over twenty Emmy Awards, and cracked open a door American TV had kept shut: prime-time comedy could take on real politics, and the laughs made it harder to look away.
