The Man from Earth: Holocene
One must pay dearly for immortality
Synopsis
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017) is an American science fiction drama directed by Richard Schenkman — watch online on iFILM this sequel to the cult 2007 original. David Lee Smith returns as John Oldman, a man who has lived for fourteen thousand years and has spent those millennia quietly moving on before anyone notices he does not age.
Something is different this time. For the first time in his existence, John begins to show signs of aging — and four of his students, independently piecing together fragments of his past, have figured out too much. Michael Dorn and Vanessa Williams join the cast. The script by Jerome Bixby's son was written alongside the original, so the two films share a continuity that feels thought-through rather than opportunistic.
Like its predecessor, this is a film built around conversation and philosophical friction rather than plot mechanics. The tension comes from ideas colliding: what does mortality mean to someone who has never faced it, and what happens when knowledge of a secret becomes more dangerous than the secret itself.
