Synopsis

Rogue (2007) is an Australian survival thriller you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Greg McLean — the filmmaker behind Wolf Creek — and easily one of the better creature features to come out of that decade. Radha Mitchell leads a group of tourists on a river cruise through the remote Northern Territory until their boat encounters something territorial and enormous.

The crocodile traps the survivors on a mud island barely wide enough to stand on, with the tide rising and no safe route to shore. That is the entire situation. McLean doesn't complicate it with subplots — he just tightens the geography until every option is bad. Michael Vartan, Sam Worthington and a pre-fame Mia Wasikowska are among those doing the math on their chances.

Filmed on location in Kakadu National Park, the film has a sense of landscape that most studio productions fake. The croc itself was achieved through a combination of animatronics and real footage, and it holds up. For a film about a giant predator, what it actually earns is dread rather than disgust.
