Synopsis
Blackball (2003) is a British sports comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mel Smith. Paul Kaye plays Cliff Starkey, a loud, tattooed working-class kid from Torquay who turns out to be genuinely gifted at lawn bowls — a sport governed entirely by the sort of people who find Cliff insufferable.
A run-in with the club committee lands him a fifteen-year ban. Then Rich Schwartz arrives from the US — Vince Vaughn at peak American-agent energy — convinced he can turn a bowls prodigy into a celebrity. James Cromwell plays the reigning champion, Imelda Staunton the committee stalwart defending the game's dignity, and Johnny Vegas contributes reliable chaos.
The joke is simple and the film knows it: put a genuine maverick in a world built for conformity, add an oblivious outsider with a marketing plan, and see what survives. Stream Blackball (2003) online on iFILM.
