Synopsis

Mr. Baseball (1992) is a sports comedy from director Fred Schepisi that you can watch online on iFILM. Tom Selleck stars as Jack Elliot, a former New York Yankees MVP whose batting average keeps sliding the wrong way.

When his American career stalls, a Japanese club buys him cheap — the Chunichi Dragons of Nagoya. Jack lands in a country where everything runs by different rules: brutal practice, team discipline, bows and silence instead of his usual swagger. The team's manager, a retired player carried with quiet gravity by Ken Takakura, sees one last spark in the aging import and sets out to knock the ego loose before Jack wrecks the whole season.

The laughs come from a fair culture clash — lazy star entitlement against a relentless work ethic — and the film lets both sides be right in turn. Selleck is at his best playing a guy you shouldn't like and root for anyway. Easy watching for fans of baseball and second-chance stories. Stream Mr. Baseball (1992) online on iFILM.
