Synopsis

A British intelligence agent hands in his resignation and wakes up in the Village, a seaside resort that nobody leaves. Residents wear numbers instead of names, their pasts wiped clean, every move tracked by a white sphere called Rover. They call him Number Six. His captors want a single answer: why did he quit? He gives them nothing. Each episode is a fresh trap set by a rotating cast of Number Twos — stolen identities, dreams turned into interrogation rooms, a rigged election, human chess on the lawn, a detour into the Wild West, an escape that feels suspiciously like freedom. The point sharpens with every round: he wins only by refusing to break.
Patrick McGoohan created the series, produced it and played the lead, which explains the paranoia and the ending people still argue about. It's an allegory of the individual against the machine that arrived decades early. For viewers who want science fiction that poses questions rather than tidies them away.
