Synopsis
Gimme Danger (2016) is Jim Jarmusch's documentary about The Stooges, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It traces the Ann Arbor band that, in the late 1960s, played louder, dirtier rock than anyone else dared.
Iggy Pop tells most of it himself — garage rehearsals, broke tours, drugs, the breakups, the rare nights everything clicked. The Asheton brothers, guitarist James Williamson and bassist Dave Alexander fill in the rest. Jarmusch refuses to sand them into legends. He lets the band talk, then cuts their words against archival footage, blown-out concert clips and bursts of animation. The sound is raw. The editing jumps. It mirrors the music.
Out of rock, blues, R&B and jazz, The Stooges hammered together what later got called punk and alternative, even though almost nobody bought the records at the time. This is no polished tribute — it's an honest look at how commercial failure curdles into myth, and it lands hard for anyone who likes their music docs without the gloss.
