Synopsis
Kelly's Heroes (1970) is a WWII comedy-adventure you can watch online on iFILM — directed by Brian G. Hutton with Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland heading a cast of magnificent misfits. Running 143 minutes, it was shot on location in Yugoslavia using real tanks and crowd scenes that numbered in the thousands.
Private Kelly stumbles onto a piece of intelligence: a cache of 14,000 gold bars sitting in a bank behind German lines. No higher cause is involved. He recruits a ragtag squad of equally mercenary soldiers — including Sutherland's Oddball, a laid-back hippie tank commander who steals every scene he's in — and together they march into occupied France, dodging their own command as carefully as the enemy.
What could have been a straightforward caper plays out as something with a quiet anti-war undercurrent; the officers back at HQ are more dangerous than the Germans, and heroism here is mostly an accident. The tagline nailed it: they went to rob a bank and nearly won the war instead. Stream Kelly's Heroes (1970) online on iFILM.
