Synopsis
Zabriskie Point (1970) is Michelangelo Antonioni's counterculture drama, and you can watch online on iFILM. It's the Italian director's only American feature, and it plays nothing like conventional Hollywood.
Mark, a campus radical, becomes a suspect in a policeman's death during a chaotic protest and walks off with a small private plane. Daria drives across the desert toward a developer boss who dreams of carpeting this barren land with subdivisions. The two cross paths by chance in Death Valley, among the sand and scorched ridges of Zabriskie Point. Their brief time together is less a love affair than one long breath of freedom before the world of money and violence pulls them back. Mark Frechette and Daria Halprin star.
The film flopped on release and critics tore into it, yet it grew into a cult object: the empty landscapes, the Pink Floyd score, and that slow-motion final explosion are now part of film history. This is patient, hypnotic cinema for viewers who want the mood of an era rather than a tidy plot. Stream Zabriskie Point (1970) online on iFILM.
