Synopsis
The Comebacks (2007) is a sports spoof comedy you can watch online on iFILM. It takes aim at every Hollywood drama about a washed-up coach who scrapes together a team of misfits and drags them to a championship. The genre's clichés are pulled apart on purpose, one inspirational beat at a time.
Perennial loser Lambeau Fields (Carl Weathers) inherits a squad of college rejects and tries to mold them into winners. Along the way the movie ransacks Any Given Sunday, Remember the Titans, Friday Night Lights and a dozen other sports pictures, mangling their most earnest moments. The gags come fast and scattershot, betting that enough of them will land.
Comedy director Tom Brady (no relation to the quarterback) made it, and the supporting cast is stacked with future names doing bits: David Koechner, Will Arnett, Dax Shepard and a pre-fame Bradley Cooper.
