The Asterisk War (Seasons 1–2)

The Asterisk War (学戦都市アスタリスク, 2015) is a Japanese fantasy action anime produced by A-1 Pictures — watch all episodes online on iFILM. A catastrophic meteor storm called Invertia reshaped the world and unlocked a latent power in a new generation of humans known as the Genestella. Now six rival academies in the floating city of Rikka, nicknamed Asterisk, train these super-powered students and pit them against each other in sanctioned battle tournaments called Festas.

Transfer student Ayato Amagiri enrolls in Seidoukan Academy with an ulterior motive: he's not chasing tournament glory but searching for answers about his missing sister. His first encounter is with Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld, a princess from a rival school who greets him sword-first. Voiced by Atsushi Tamaru and Ai Kakuma, the two end up forming a reluctant partnership that drives both cours of the series.

The Asterisk War adapts Yuu Miyazaki's light novel series across 24 episodes split into two seasons. It sits squarely in the school-tournament fantasy subgenre — those who enjoyed Chivalry of a Failed Knight or Infinite Stratos will find familiar ground here, with cleaner production values and a mystery thread that extends past the arena.
