Mushi-Shi (Seasons 1–2)
The cycle of life extends beyond the world we can see and connect us all in unexpected ways.
Synopsis
Watch Mushi-Shi (蟲師, 2005) online on iFILM — a Japanese anime series from studio Artland, based on Yuki Urushibara's manga. The show imagines a world where life doesn't end at plants and animals: mushi are something older, stranger, and mostly invisible, drifting through the natural world and occasionally colliding with human lives in ways nobody can explain.
Ginko is a mushi-shi — a travelling specialist who can perceive these creatures. He wanders without a fixed route, arriving in remote villages where people have gone blind from an inner light, hear sounds with no source, or find their bodies slowly taken over. Each episode is its own closed case, and the mushi are never villains — just forces operating by rules humans haven't learned yet.
Director Hiroshi Nagahama gave the series the pace of a folk tale, letting silence do most of the work. Twenty-six episodes, no ongoing plot — just a quiet accumulation of mood. For fans of atmospheric Japanese animation, this one is genuinely unlike anything else. Stream all episodes of Mushi-Shi on iFILM.
