Steel (1997) is an American superhero action film directed by Kenneth Johnson, based on the DC Comics character — watch it online on iFILM. NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal plays John Henry Irons, a weapons engineer whose experimental designs wind up stolen and funneled to street gangs and criminal syndicates.

John Henry decides to handle it personally. He welds together a suit of armor, teams up with Natalie (Annabeth Gish), a fellow engineer now using a wheelchair, and takes to the streets armed with a massive electromagnetic hammer. The film landed in a pre-formula era for studio superhero pictures, before the genre settled into any unified shape. It plays exactly like that — direct, loud, and more earnest than ironic.
