Synopsis
The Power (2023) is an Amazon Prime Video sci-fi drama worth watching online on iFILM. The premise is simple and deafening: teenage girls around the globe suddenly wake up able to fire electricity from their hands. All it takes is a spark.
The show braids several threads together — Seattle mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez (Toni Collette), her daughter, a runaway from a foster home in the American South, the daughter of a London crime family, a young woman in Nigeria, and an ambitious journalist named Tunde. What starts as a tingle in the collarbone becomes a weapon, then a full reversal of the old order: for the first time, it's men who learn to be afraid. John Leguizamo, Auli'i Cravalho, Eddie Marsan and Toheeb Jimoh round out the cast, and the story stays deliberately global — London, Seattle, Nigeria, Eastern Europe.
It's adapted from Naomi Alderman's novel, a Women's Prize for Fiction winner, with the author herself on the writing team. The hook isn't the effects but the question of what people do with power the moment it changes hands — and how fast the hunted turn into hunters.
