Synopsis
Waiting for the Hearse (Esperando la carroza, 1985) is an Argentine comedy directed by Alejandro Doria — watch it online on iFILM. It begins at a family lunch and ends in a full-blown identity mix-up at the morgue.
Mama Cora is nearly eighty and nobody in the family wants to take her in. Three sons and a daughter spend the meal circling the question without answering it. Then Cora slips out to a neighbor's house without telling anyone. The family assumes the worst, a body in the morgue gets misidentified as hers, and the funeral preparations drag every buried resentment and financial grievance into the open. Luis Brandoni, China Zorrilla, and Antonio Gasalla play the whole farce with a deadpan precision that makes it genuinely uncomfortable — which is exactly what makes it funny.
The film became a cornerstone of Argentine cinema, the kind that gets quoted at actual family gatherings because the dynamics are too specific to be invented. Stream Waiting for the Hearse online on iFILM.
