Good luck with that. Kids say exactly what they think, and these three think out loud about everything. David Tennant plays Doug, Rosamund Pike is Abi, and Billy Connolly is the gruff, big-hearted grandfather whose scenes with the children carry the film. Then, against all those postcard Highland views, the story takes a sharp turn into grief and asks whether a child's bluntness might be more honest than grown-up manners.

Writers and directors Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin came from the sitcom Outnumbered and again let the kids improvise, which is why the lines feel so alive and unpredictable. It looks like a featherweight comedy and isn't, funny early and genuinely moving later, without tipping into mush. A solid pick for a family night in.
