Synopsis
The Trip (2010) is a British mockumentary comedy series you can watch online on iFILM — six episodes directed by Michael Winterbottom for BBC Two, with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon playing heightened versions of themselves.
The premise: Coogan is commissioned to review six restaurants across the north of England for The Observer, and Brydon comes along. That is the whole setup. What the series actually is — a sustained, deadpan face-off between two men doing celebrity impressions at dinner (Michael Caine, Roger Moore, Al Pacino), interrupting each other mid-sentence, and occasionally catching glimpses of something real: middle age, missed ambitions, what friendship looks like when you have run out of things to hide behind.
