Synopsis
The Drowning Pool (1975) is a detective thriller with Paul Newman you can watch online on iFILM. Private eye Lew Harper is called down to Louisiana by an old flame: someone is trying to blackmail her over a buried secret. It looks like a simple favor, right up until other people's interests start poking through the case.
Working the humid streets and mansions around New Orleans, Harper keeps running into a trigger-happy police chief and a greedy oil baron with his eye on the family's land. The more he pulls at the threads, the deeper he sinks — until he ends up trapped somewhere that seems to have no way out. Director Stuart Rosenberg lets it all unfold at an unhurried, noir-flavored pace.
This is the sequel to 1966's Harper, with Newman back as the weary, wisecracking gumshoe, plus Joanne Woodward and a very young Melanie Griffith. Solid retro viewing for fans of old-school private-eye stories. Stream The Drowning Pool (1975) online on iFILM.
