Synopsis
Looker (1981) is a sci-fi thriller from writer-director Michael Crichton you can watch online on iFILM. A Hollywood plastic surgeon perfects the faces of his model clients, and then those women start turning up dead.
Dr. Larry Roberts (Albert Finney) refuses to call it coincidence and digs into the deaths himself. The trail leads to Digital Matrix, a high-tech firm run by a chillingly smooth executive (James Coburn). The company scans living models into flawless digital doubles for television ads, which makes the real bodies expendable. Every answer Roberts finds puts a bigger target on his back.
Crichton made this a full decade before CGI went mainstream, and Looker holds a quiet place in film history as one of the earliest movies to build a 3D digital human from a scanned actress. Its paranoid take on advertising that hijacks the viewer's mind feels oddly prophetic now. If you like retro-futurist tech thrillers about manufactured perfection, this one is a treat.
