Synopsis
S.O.B. (1981) is Blake Edwards' acid Hollywood satire, and you can watch online on iFILM. Producer Felix Farmer releases a film that bombs spectacularly, and the humiliation pushes him straight over the edge.
Then the machine kicks in: agents swarm, lawyers draft suits, columnists sharpen their knives — and Felix lands on a deranged fix. He will recut his wholesome family picture into soft-core, talking his squeaky-clean leading lady into baring all on camera. That star is played by Julie Andrews, the Mary Poppins herself, and Edwards — her real-life husband — weaponizes her pure image into a joke aimed at the entire dream factory. Around her stand William Holden in one of his last roles, Robert Preston, Robert Vaughn and Shelley Winters.
Edwards made this after his own bruising fights with the studios, and he settles scores in plain sight: the comedy here is pitch-black, teetering on despair. It's for anyone who enjoys a vicious takedown of the business and a film that spares no one, least of all the people who made it. Stream S.O.B. (1981) online on iFILM.
