Their first case opens when human remains turn up sealed inside a bricked-up chimney flue. From there the work is patient and grim: name the victim, pin down the cause of death, and dig into a past someone went to real trouble to bury. The suspect list keeps widening, a mother and son fall under scrutiny, and the messes in both detectives' private lives keep pulling their attention off the job.
