Wu Assassins (Season 1)

Wu Assassins (2019) is a Netflix supernatural action series you can watch online on iFILM — one tight season of ten episodes set in the streets of San Francisco's Chinatown. The reason to start: Iko Uwais, the Indonesian martial arts star behind The Raid, throws hands in ways that make most TV fight choreography look like slow motion.

Uwais plays Kai Jin, a chef who gets drafted into an ancient line of warriors called the Wu Assassins. Five supernatural warlords are carving up the neighbourhood, and Kai has to track them all down before the damage becomes permanent. He's joined by homicide detective Tommy Waga (Byron Mann), and the ensemble includes Katheryn Winnick and Mark Dacascos, who both know their way around an action sequence. The show mixes Chinatown gang politics with mystical folklore — sometimes the combination clicks, and when it does, the action set-pieces are genuinely spectacular.
