Synopsis
Paris (2008) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Cédric Klapisch and featuring Juliette Binoche, Romain Duris and Fabrice Luchini. Running 130 minutes, it is the kind of multi-strand city film that trusts its audience to do some of the connecting.
Pierre is a professional dancer waiting for a heart transplant. The outcome is uncertain. Confined to his apartment, he turns his balcony into a window on the neighbourhood below. His sister Élise, played by Binoche, is raising three children alone and fighting with him constantly. A history professor across town is quietly falling for a student and does nothing about it. A bakery owner, a market stall vendor, a construction worker — each carries a small story that brushes against the others, briefly and without resolution.
Klapisch is not building to a climax. He is making an argument that a city is not one story but hundreds running in parallel, and that proximity does not equal connection. Quiet, observational, occasionally funny — and best appreciated by viewers who do not need every thread tied. Stream Paris (2008) online on iFILM.
