PEN15 (2020), Season 2 is the adult comedy you can watch online on iFILM — fifteen episodes where Maya Erskine and Anna Konkl keep playing themselves at thirteen in the year 2000.
The dance is over, the cringe is not. The girls drag themselves to a pool party they dread, try casting spells on backyard rocks, join the wrestling team and audition for the school play, all to survive seventh grade with some dignity left. Underneath the jokes, Anna's parents split up and her dad moves out, which hurts more than any classroom humiliation. Maya, meanwhile, starts to notice her family has less money than her friends do. Some episodes shrink down to one bad sleepover; one steps away from the kids entirely to spend a whole day inside the head of Maya's mother, Yuki.
What holds this Hulu show together is that grown women play children completely straight, no winking at the camera.
