Synopsis
PEN15 (2019) is a Hulu comedy series you can watch online on iFILM. Creators Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle star as themselves — except as thirteen-year-old middle schoolers in the year 2000, played by the fully grown women alongside an actual cast of real teenagers. That collision is the whole joke, and it never stops working.
Maya and Anna are the weird kids nobody wants to sit with. Their days are a gauntlet of gel pens, AIM usernames, slow-dance anxiety, and the specific cruelty only seventh-graders can pull off. The show nails the texture of that era without softening it: the embarrassments are real, the heartbreaks are real, and the loyalty between the two of them is the only thing holding any of it together.
