Sofia (Emma Mackey) has spent her adult life managing her mother Rose (Fiona Shaw), confined to a wheelchair by an illness no doctor can name. Their last resort is Dr. Gomez (Vincent Perez) in the sun-scorched Andalusian town of Almería. With her hands free for the first time, Sofia meets Ingrid (Vicky Krieps), an elusive traveller whose pull starts dismantling everything Sofia thought she was.

Lenkiewicz co-wrote the screenplay for Paweł Pawlikowski's Ida, which took the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film — here she trades the co-writer's chair for the director's.
