Mercy

Mercy (2014) is an American horror thriller directed by Peter Cornwell, available to watch online on iFILM. Frances O'Connor plays a single mother who moves her two boys to her ailing grandmother's farmhouse, expecting to manage a family obligation. What she doesn't account for is the grandmother herself — played by Shirley Knight — a woman whose bedtime stories turn out to be something closer to confessions.

Chandler Riggs, known from The Walking Dead, plays George, the older son who starts putting the pieces together before any adult will listen. At 78 minutes the film moves without padding, and Cornwell keeps the horror in the atmosphere rather than the gore — slow dread building around what the grandmother has been holding back all these years. Mark Duplass and Dylan McDermott round out the cast. It won't satisfy audiences wanting constant shocks, but if controlled, creeping family horror is the aim, Mercy earns its runtime.
