Bandit

Bandit (2022) is a Canadian crime thriller directed by Allan Ungar — watch it online on iFILM. The film is based on the true story of Gilbert Galvan Jr., nicknamed The Flying Bandit: after breaking out of a Michigan prison, he slipped into Canada, bought himself a new identity, and went right back to work.

What followed was 59 bank and jewelry store robberies across the country. Galvan moved constantly, hit fast, and kept ahead of the task force chasing him long enough to become a genuinely strange footnote in North American criminal history. Josh Duhamel plays him with an easy charm that makes the run feel credible; Elisha Cuthbert and Mel Gibson round out the cast.

Director Ungar keeps the tone closer to caper than gritty crime drama — the film is more interested in the audacity of what Galvan pulled off than in consequences.
