Synopsis
Another Earth (2011) is an indie sci-fi drama directed by Mike Cahill that you can watch online on iFILM. The night a mirror image of our planet appears in the sky, a young student named Rhoda runs a red light. The crash kills a family. One man survives. She goes to prison. The second Earth keeps growing larger in the window.
Four years later, Rhoda finds the survivor — composer John Burroughs, played by William Mapother — and shows up at his door pretending to be a cleaning service. He doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know how to tell him. Brit Marling, who co-wrote the script and plays Rhoda, builds the relationship in silences and small domestic gestures rather than confrontation scenes.
The mirror Earth functions as a question the film never quite answers: what version of yourself is living up there, and would you want to meet her? Made for under $100,000, the film won the Alfred P.
