The Photograph

When renowned photographer Christina Eames dies without warning, her daughter Mae is left with more questions than memories. Inside a safe-deposit box she finds an old photograph and a letter — the beginning of an investigation into a life her mother kept sealed. Journalist Michael Block arrives to cover Christina's retrospective exhibition and ends up staying for reasons that have nothing to do with the story he was sent to write. Chante Adams, Rob Morgan, Lil Rel Howery and Courtney B. Vance round out the cast.

The film runs two timelines at once, with the past quietly answering what the present keeps asking. It is a slower, more melancholy love story than most of its genre — built around daughters who ran out of time and the photographs that speak for mothers who stayed silent.
