Synopsis
The Spitfire Grill (1996) — watch online on iFILM — is an American drama written and directed by Lee David Zlotoff. Percy walks out of prison with one destination in mind: Gillead, Maine, a small town she saw in a magazine that somehow looked like the right place to start over.
Hannah, played by Ellen Burstyn, takes her on at the diner — not out of warmth exactly, but out of need. Will Patton's resentful brother-in-law makes his suspicions clear from the start; Marcia Gay Harden plays Sylvia, a woman who has quietly shut herself off from the town for reasons that take time to surface. Percy doesn't ask anyone for trust. She just shows up every day and works. The film picked up the Audience Award at Sundance in 1996 — a small drama with staying power.
